Weekly Eats

Good Evening, Everyone :)
I mentioned in one of my previous posts that we will be doing a weekly menu to make deciding and food shopping a bit easier. And I figured I'll share our this weeks menu here since I'll be doing our weekly shop today. We've recently been using Ocado. We first tried it out, because we had a discount voucher for the first shop, but found their organic range really good. They also seem to have a lot more variety of different foods that you don't find in every supermarket.

Anyway...Here is our this weeks menu :)

Monday
Since the delivery won't come until tomorrow, we had to sort something out from what we ha left in the fridge/freezer. And since yesterday we had a healthy meal of seabass with greens and some rice I figured why not have a bit less healthy version of pasta bolognese tonight. I also managed to use up all the veg that was on the verge of going off (mushrooms, leeks, peppers)

Tuesday

Chicken Tuesday. This doesn't mean we will be having chicken every Tuesday :D Ocado does these chicken breasts, that are individually packed, which means they are easy to freeze and then defrost. I will be using the seasoning paper to cook and flavour them (no need for oil) and we shall be having a nice salad with avocado, tomatoes and mozzarella. Simple and easy but still healthy.

Wednesday

Fish Wednesday. Fishcakes with cous cous :)

Thursday

Beef Stirfry. We use to have chicken before, but I'm a big fan of bbq stir fry sauce which works really well with beef :)

Friday (My Birthday :D)

We will be going for dinner on the night (dinner time for us is 5/6 pm now, which is really eary compared to our pre-baby 8/9pm dinners :D) We won't be cooking at home.

Saturday

This is meant to be everything can happen Saturday, where we try out a funky new recipe, but we have guests coming over and then heading out, which means I'll make something that is easy to feed to a lot of people :D
I will be making my famous quiche (I'll add a recipe on a later date) and a fresh salad. I'll also be doing a funky bread, meat and cheese plate for snacks :)

Sunday

In England Sundays are roast days, but nor me or D are really fans of a big roast, so we will be having something else. And since we missed our anything can happen Saturday I figured, we can try something on Sunday. Haven't picked a recipe yet, so I'll be updating this one once we have decided.

I might add pictures of all the meals at the end of the week to this post and you can find it on the Food page :)

Stay tuned and hope you guys enjoy your week :)

Weekly Eats

Oh how lazy have I been with posting. I haven't been busy or anything, I just haven't done anything :D
To be honest all this week has been one delivery madness :D It all started on Sunday when we got our Tassimo Bosch coffee machine...you have no idea how happy it has made me. We only have latte capsules at the moment, but I'm going to town tomorrow and will try to find some more funky coffees/hot chocolates/teas for it, so I can mix it up.

Helloooo latte :)

D also ordered me the birth ball, which was a surprise, and it's amazing :D I keep bouncing on it, and it keeps me from slouching on the sofa and it's just fun :D And then the pushchair got delivered. We had a Tesco food delivery( I've never done an on-line food shop before apart from the Riverford Farm one, who delivered also on Tuesday, and I really need to start checking the sizes)  I got a massive pack of spaghetti (1.5 kg :D) and a tiny tiny bottle of squash (500ml) it's such a joke, it felt like the Ikea coffee table disaster again :D

And D's present also got delivered today, can't wait to give it to him next week :) And he got me a maternity pillow, because I haven't been sleeping that well lately...the pillow is actually really good, it just supports me in all the right places :) So I'm muchos grateful to him for this one.

Anyway, these are just a few of my eats over the last week :)

Chicken and chorizo salad with sweet potato wedges, egg and grapes

Cherries for a little fruit fix

Grilled camambert on a bed of lettuce and balsamic dressing and onion chutney

Shredded chicken in pitta bread with some homemade salsa and cool cour cream

Spaghetti Bolognaise with friends (cheddar and parmigiani, garlic bread and spring onions :))

Smoked Garlic beef burger with a side of coleslaw and mushrooms with leeks

Got to love home-made burgers...and muffins...blueberry muffins...I'll go make some now :D

Weekly Eats

It has been one weird week. One half of it I can't be bothered to do anything, the other half I'm just all over it :D This only means the meals at the beginning of the week, where not that great :D But it got better...

And these are a few things I have been munching on this week.

On Tuesday we had another delivery from the Riverford Farm. This time I picked the things I wanted for it rather than getting the veg and fruit in season.
I also wanted to try the fresh apple juice, but D had done a Sainsbury's order, so we had loads of juice already. I will definitely try it one time though.

I ordered another batch of eggs, mushrooms, new potatoes, carrots, nectarines, cheddar cheese, cherry tomatoes and also gooseberries.
I also really like their packaging. They just collect it and recycle it with the next visit.

Look at those beauties :D They still need a little bit of ripening, but nothing a few days on the windowsill can't fix :D I have been picking on them though so I don't think they will last long.

This is actually our dinner yesterday.

I did a big Tesco shop and found these funky Chorizo style burgers. Went bun less again, since we end up using only the 2-3 buns and then the rest just go mouldy. On the side I made a nice fresh salsa, with tomatoes and spring and red onions and olive oil, and some garlic fried mushrooms.

Also the potato wedges, I just seasoned them with this potato seasoning I get from the lithuanian shop (We always use it in Estonia and actually the writing on top is Estonian :D) and olive oil and lined them up on the oven tray like little soldiers, turning them every once in a while.

For dessert I made this amazing thing :D

Eaton mess, with blueberries and strawberries and a berry coulis. So good. But I might have put too much sugar in the cream as it was REALLY sweet :D I couldn't even finish this glass.

On a good note though, I had loads of berries left over, so I had some for breakfast with raspberry yogurt.

Tonight we had chilli chicken thighs with a fresh salad for dinner. Light and yummy.

And this is how the fruit tray looks now. It won't stay like that for long though, because now that the fruit is actually on the table and in reach, we eat quite a bit more I think.

I did have cheecky Solero ice-cream for a dessert though :) Think I deserved it after being so good with breakfast and dinner :D

And tomorrow we have our monthly date night. We want to go to this Italian place called Fumo, but they don't take any bookings for less than 7 people, so we're hoping we can get a table.
But if not, then we do have a booking in 2 other restaurants as well. San Carlo (which is really nice, also italian :D) or Malmaison, which is really good, but a bit further away from Fumo.

Anyway
Hope you enjoyed the post.

Weekly Eats

This post is actually mostly food I had last week, because it's only Tuesday. And it was the week where D was away so I tried to be healthy and good, because I only had to worry about my own dinners.

We did go to GBK yesterday though after my whooping cough vaccination.

This is what I always have :D The bunless taxidriver with coleslaw and corn (I do sometimes have a salad). D decided to go for the same burger as well, he always goes bunless as well.
And we also shared a side of sweet potato fries.

That was our lunch, and for dinner he made some chicken drumsticks in the oven and a fresh salad. I was still full from the lunch though, so I only had 1 drumstick and just a bit of salad. I get fuller so much quicker these days...I think it's because there is just not a lot of room in my stomach anymore. Plus just before dinner was ready I finished off my strawberry milkshake I got from GBK :D

If you follow me on Instagram you'll know my friend finally managed to visit me and got me a housewarming present. I have lived in this flat for 4 months now :D soooooo....she really took her time. I can't really say anything though, as I still haven't managed to visit her.

This is what she got me though :)

It's an Estonian tradition to bring salt and bread as a house warming present. So she got me a nice mozzarella and onion twist and this crazy smoky flavour salt. Also a lime, mint and lemon flavor sparkling drink :) Non-alcoholic obviously :)

And then we cooked dinner. It's another bunless burger, but between that and yesterday there was 4 days, so It's not as bad in reality. Plus I need to get my iron levels up, so having red meat is good for me.

We both had 2 burgers each and then Merit made a nice side of tomato, avocado and onion salad and I fried some mushrooms in garlic.
I didn't manage to finish the whole portion, but it was so nice, and the weather was so warm, we had it in the courtyard.

Since we had been pretty good with the dinner, we treated ourselves with these amazing Lemon tarts. They are ready made, I just added some blueberries to mine ( always get organic blueberries, because they are the main berry to be covered in pesticidesif they are not organic). Merit also added a dollop of creme fresh :)

I want one now :D

And here is a picture of one of the lunches. Ignore the cheese on top. It's otherwise really healthy :D
Pepper, onion and mushroom omlette :)
(Also eggs are a good source of Iron, which us pregnant ladies usually lack in our system)

I am also due on the farm delivery today :) I'll post a picture on the box on my instagram, so follow me for post update notes and a few extra pictures from my life :)

And enjoy your food...we only live once  :)

Living Room Update

I finally found some accessories to spruce up the living room, and D swapped the tv table for the massive coffee table, so we are all good :D

So I went to TKmax again (this place will bankropt me :D) And got a few nice things to liven up the blandness.

I got this nice cream colored throw, it's so soft. And then the cushion with the flowers on. It has accents of blue and lime green. Really pretty

This is how the cushion looks like from the other side. I actually ended up leaving it on this way, because it gives more of an effect.

This is the second settee. The stripy cushion on the left of the picture is the same as the one on the first picture, except it's in all cream/brown/beige colours. The other reason I keep them stripy side up is that the flowery bit is done with a thread that's a bit shiny, and I'm not a big fan of shiny :D

And this is my coffee table arrangement. I got both of the trays, so one is for candles and flowers (picked these from the garden :D and they are in douwe egberts cleaned coffee jars...we have about 6 of them, so I keep trying to find what to do with tem. They are great for storing dry goods because the lids are really great, but they are just too small for pasta and flour and stuff like that :D) The other tray I figured I can use for fruit. But I only have bananas at the moment, and they were looking a bit rough, so I left them out of the picture :D

I did do an order from Riverford Organic farm. So I should be getting a box of vegetables and fruit on Tuesday. I also ordered eggs :D figured why not. I only buy free range anyway so to have them delivered to your door for the same price....perfect.

It really is worth researching your local farms and markets to find the best quality ingredients. And like I've mentioned before, I'm trying to be as good as possible lately, with all the additives and GMO's. But sometimes stores don't stock the things you've gone for in the organic variety, so you have to make compromises.

Anyway...hope you like the look of the lving room. I forgot to take the before photo :D but to be honest it wasn't that much different :D apartt from the fact it was missing the things I bought today :)

Buckwheat salad

D is away for the week, which means I only have to think about myself when making dinner. Like I've mentioned before our usual home cooked dinners are either chicken stir frys or fishcakes with salad. But today I thought, I'll do something different.
It's something I used to eat all the time, but kind of stopped, because I don't think D would appreciate a completely vegetarian dish. To be honest, without the spoonful of creme fresh it would be a vegan dish :)

I tried to get all the ingredients organic, but had to make some compromises, as the shop didn't stock them. So the spinach and cucumber are not organic, they are grown in England though, so at least they didn't have to go through a lot of travel.
Also the avocados I used were not organic, because I don't buy them organic anyway. They are on the low risk side of pesticides and GMO's so it's another compromise worth doing.

But here you go...

All the prep. I've got grated carrots and beetroot. Then I chopped some cucumber, tomato and spring onions, which I seasoned with just salt and pepper. A bag of washed baby spinach and homemade guacamole.

This is buckwheat. I am used to eating it, as it used to be a simple thing to do for dinner in Estonia. Usually eat it with some sour cream salad and fried bacon. I just boiled it with some sea salt. I get mine from a Lithuanian shop around the corner from our flat, but you can also find it in the organic/healthy sections in supermarkets. I do recommend venturing out to little eastern European shops for it though, as it will be about 8 times cheaper there.

My home-made guacamole. I used two ripe avocados, chopped garlic and chopped red onion. Seasoned with some salt and pepper and drizzled with extra virgin olive oil.....AMAZING

And here is the salad. I added a bit of creme fresh to my buckwheat this time so all the other ingredients are on the side, but the times when I leave the creme part, I like to mix everything together so it will look more like a salad :)

And since I prepped all the ingredients in the containers, I now have everything ready for me to make myself another portion of salad for work lunch :)

This salad is so easy to do and the only hard part about it is not going for seconds...even though it's so healthy and packed with vitamins you can easily go for thirds without feeling guilty :)

So enjoy :)

And I know it's really healthy, but I don't eat like that every day...and here's a picture to prove it.

Crab and chilli linguini in Cusina Rustica :) and I said yes to the parmesan cheese :D

It's all about the balance in my opinion. If I would deprive myself of something then I'm pretty sure it would be the only thing I will crave for days. And if I want some chocolate, I will have that too...

:)
